A stroke of luck... or maybe not?

A couple of weeks before we moved, we made the decision to put our names down for a local allotment plot. We knew it would take a while before we would actually get one because the waiting lists are always really long. We settled down to wait, contenting ourselves with doing various bits of DIY around the house and sorting out the overgrown back garden.

So, imagine our surprise when only two months later we got a phone call inviting us to view a plot at our preferred location.

Wonderful, we thought!

Until we viewed it....

Unsurprisingly, other people were not interested in taking this on.

We decided that we would grab the bull by the horns and take the plot. While we were viewing, we noted that the plot next door was in a similar state...

...and after much deliberating we decided "In for a penny, in for a pound" and stated our interest in that plot too, if noone else was interested in it. The Allotments Clerk said it would make her life a lot easier if we did take it, and in no time the paperwork was complete!

So now the hard work begins. We called the left one Plot #1 and the right one Plot #2. The ground elder has taken over the majority of Plot #1...

Sideways ground elder, courtesy of Blogger being weird.

...but we did manage to locate a solitary rhubarb right at the back;

Hello in there!!

two apple trees, one on each plot;

The Big Apple
The Little Apple

and a couple of other trees, which we've yet to sit down and identify.

Obviously we're gluttons for punishment!

Now feel free to leave us comments telling us about the ridiculous amount of work we're facing....! :)
